Kathryn Joyce Hamrick Wheeler, 62, passed away Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at Memorial University Medical Center. She was born February 4, 1950 in Oakland, California and was a longtime resident of Savannah. She was a 1968 graduate of Savannah High School, and a member of Bible Baptist Church. Kathryn was an avid bingo player where she won many times while playing at the Moose Lodge, as well as other places.
She was preceded in death by her father, Knowles Hamrick, Jr.
She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Henry "Jack" Wheeler, of Savannah, her mother, Ernestine Estill, of Savannah, son, Jeff VanScooter Jacqueline, of Pooler, three daughters, Laura Palmer Ken, of Savannah, Angela Tidwell Mike, of Savannah, and Leslie Wheeler, of Savannah. Also surviving are her brother, Knowles Hamrick, III, and two sisters, Karen Cowart, and Donna Brantley. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jordan, Adam, Allison, and Brian, Joshua, Araya, Jessica, Harley, Taylor, Caleb, Alicia, and Kristin.
A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held Friday, September 14, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. date at Risen Savior Lutheran Church in Pooler.
Remembrances may be made to The Shepherd Center for Spinal Cord Injuries, 2020 Peachtree Road, N.W., Atlanta, GA 30309.
Her strong will and determination defined inspiration. She was and continues to be an inspiration to us all.
